Racer and the Jailbird is Michaël R. Roskam’s second feature film shot on Belgian soil, after the internationally acclaimed film Bullhead in 2011, a box office hit in Belgium with 480,000 spectators. Bullhead wasn’t only a national hit, it was also an Oscar® and César nominee for Best Foreign Language Film. Roskam was soon picked up by Hollywood and shot The Drop, a dark crime film with Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace and the late James Gandolfini playing the lead roles. Roskam also directed the first two episodes of the TV series Berlin Station for the American channel Epix.
